I remember driving back home from a visit with my wife’s family on Interstate I-10 in the middle of nowhere someplace in West Texas when we both heard the news on the radio that a 9.0 earthquake struck Japan. I remember this moment distinctly because as my wife and I made the 1700 mile trek back home from Texas, I asked the question, would we be prepared for a big one back at home? That question led us in preparing earthquake bags aka “bug-out” bags on Doomsday Preppers.
Although the bags we prepared aren’t designed for the use in the Zombie Apocalypse or some other out of world craze event, we created these bags as a level of readiness. We have several bags and placed them in our home and vehicles to be used in the event that we need to evacuate immediately. You should definitely consider placing an earthquake bag in your vehicle, just for the fact that you may not be at home when disaster strikes. From experience, the bags also handy at other times when you are on the road as well.
When the Napa Quake struck the Bay Area this past Sunday, it was reassuring to have several of these bags on site ready on a moments notice. I believe we were blessed as things could have been much worst on Sunday. Last Sunday was a reminder to all of us that we need to be prepared for the big one.
